Kim: Pindi's Indian recipes both simple, tasty

After a short time in Athens during her childhood, Pindi Arora moved to live in India with her dad until she was 12.

The two then moved to Bahrain, where she lived until she was 19, before moving back to Athens in 1988. All along, the thought of her grandmother's traditional Indian cooking stuck with her.

"I didn't realize how lucky I was in India with all the delicious homemade Indian meals I ate every single day," she says. "It wasn't until Bahrain and afterwards that I realized how lucky I was, probably because I didn't have it at my disposal anymore, but I was determined to learn how to cook it for myself in order to satisfy my cravings."

Even after moving to Athens, Pindi continuously spent her summers in India in her grandmother's kitchen learning her techniques and recipes.

Having lived in Athens for the past 22 years, Pindi has worked at a few restaurants in town, including the now closed Bluebird Café, and she also delivered flowers.

In 2002, she started working at the deli at the Daily Co-op on Prince Avenue.

After several years there, Pindi was promoted to deli manager and worked there full time until 2008, when she decided she stepped down from the role of deli manager and enrolled in shamanism school.

Although energy healing is a focal point for Pindi, she also has made a name for herself in the Athens community with her delicious Indian food she makes from her grandmother's recipes.

It all started when she wanted to provide ready-made food for parents at Waseca School when they picked up their children. A portion of her profits went back to the school as fundraising, and the rest is history.
